The programme was all wrong. One half of Verdi; the other of Puccini, and every piece a climactic aria from its opera. No voice could possibly survive such a regime. Unsurprisingly, her voice gave out. She was not on top form from the outset. She was having to make technical "saves" in ascending scales in the second item. She could have changed the programme if she knew her voice was fragile beforehand. The audience would not have minded. Certainly, she should have included some tender items in the programme instead of an attempted onslaught of nothing but con tutta forza. A disappointing evening that could have so easily been sublime with a little better thought.
